Community:
Andover has an enviable reputation in Allegany and surrounding counties because of its almost legendary civic pride. In early spring the village swells with visitors from miles around to celebrate the weekend of the annual Maple Festival. begins weeks before the two-day event,
which is sponsored by the Lions Club. This includes an Arts & Crafts Fair, Pancake
Breakfast, fleamarket, food and community booths, historical displays-filling Andover
School. |
Independance Day features
an allcountry Fourth of July Parade with "the works!" Marching bands,
batontwirling majorettes, floats, decorated cars, pretty girls crowned queen, horses
flags-the traditional memories of home-town celebrations come to life. The parade attracts
many thousands of visitors to line the streete, search the Arts & Crafts Outdoor Fair
for treasures, and finish the day with a spectacular fireworks display-all planned
annually by the July Fourth Parade Committee. Additionally, the community is served by the Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, American Legion, Rod & Gun Club, Eastern Star, Twigs, Grange and Masons. Junion citizens have civic involvement in Scouting and 4-H. |
